As discussions heat up across America about reducing our dependency on foreign oil, two of the most promising renewable energy solutions are already available at Ehrhart: BioHeat and BioDiesel.
Whether for home heating use or for fleet vehicle services, we have a clean-burning, renewable “bio” that’s just right for you!
BioHeat: The clean-burning alternative fuel

BioHeat fuel is a blend of home heating oil and American-made biodiesel, which is a refined fuel made from renewable sources as soybeans. You do not need to make any changes to your furnace, boiler, or tank to begin using BioHeat. Your fuel will burn cleaner, your system will stay at peak efficiency longer, and you will have done a good thing for our environment.
BioHeat fuel is produced from any natural fat or oil – such as soybean oil – that is run through a refining process call “transesterification.” This process is a reaction of oil mixing with an alcohol to remove the glycerin, which is a by-product of BioDiesel production.
Fuel-grade BioHeat must meet strict industry specifications, and is the only alternative fuel to have fully completed the health effects testing requirements of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments. Raw vegetable oil cannot meet BioHeat fuel specifications, is not registered with the EPA, and is not a legal motor fuel.
No wonder BioHeat is here to stay…
- Reduces U.S. reliance on imported oil – By replacing millions of gallons of petroleum-based heating oil, American homes will be far less vulnerable to any supply disruptions from overseas unrest or politics.
- Includes on renewable, biodegradable, nontoxic resources – We can continually re-grow new supplies throughout America, and it is virtually free of sulfur and other impurities.
- Requires no equipment refits – If your heating system uses regular fuel oil, it can use BioHeat fuel.
- Saves wear and tear on equipment AND the environment – Because it has a much lower sulftur content, BioHeat fuel burns cleaner than standard No. 2 heating oil. The result is fewer breakdowns, longer equipment life, better fuel efficiency, and a cleaner environment.
- Qualifies for up to 20-cent-per-gallon New York State tax credit – You can save $200 on every 1,000 gallons of BioHeat you use! We will be happy to provide our customers with a statement of their BioHeat usage for the year. Learn more about the Clean Heating Fuel Credit, which remains in effect through 2011.
BioDiesel: A renewable diesel replacement
BioDiesel is a completely renewable, American-made replacement for diesel fuel. It is made the same way BioHeat is (in fact, just like diesel and fuel oil, they are the same fuel, just taxed differently, and fuel oil is dyed to show that the road tax has not been assessed).
And just like BioHeat, BioDiesel can be used in your vehicle with absolutely no modifications. It contains no sulfur, so emissions are clean. But because it is produced from oils and fats, its lubricity is actually higher than the current ultra-low sulfur diesel standards. The result is a cleaner fuel, with better emissions, that runs at higher efficiency, wears your engine less, and is completely renewable
